Florida Ovarian Cancer Alliance Speaks (FOCAS)
FOCAS is a coalition of ovarian cancer groups around the state of Florida formed in 2007 and mentored by WGCA. The group meets to share best practices as well as to present a united front for ovarian and all gynecologic cancers issues including state funding for research, education and awareness. The Kelly Smith Gynecologic and Ovarian Cancer Education and Awareness Act of 2011 was the first legislation of its kind enacted in the State of Florida largely due to the efforts of FOCAS. For more information or to join our coalition, please contact email@example.com.
Organizations include: Women’s & Girls’ Cancer Alliance, Betty Allen Ovarian Cancer Foundation, Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered), MeStrong, and Ovacome.

In Honor/In Memory
Our “In Honor/In Memory” project is an exhibit of ladies affected by gynecologic cancer being honored or memorialized by family and friends. The “In Honor of” display board presents brass names plates of those still in the fight against cancer while the “In Memory of” display board honors those who have bravely fought till the end. This exhibit is present at our special events for individuals to pay their respects and reflect upon all of those within our community who are dear to us. The on-going handling of this exhibit is lovingly cared for by a very special friend of WGCA, Beate Johnson, an ovarian cancer survivor. To honor or memorialize someone special in our exhibit, please click on our shop.
Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers in the United States, and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among American women. Advances in the fight against this terrible disease only occur through medical research focused on finding better methods of diagnosis, more effective treatments, and eventually a cure. In spite of the pressing need, ovarian cancer research is under-funded. Government funding for ovarian cancer research has been stagnant for many years– and when factoring in inflation, funding has actually declined over the last several years.
Through fundraisers and individual support, WGCA has been able to secure more than $100,000 in our Teresa Rosebrough Research Fund for researchers investigating various aspects of ovarian cancer. Grantees include Florida Hospital Cancer Institute, UF Health Cancer Center – Orlando Health, and the University of Central Florida.
